Growing Your Own Herbs – Garden and Indoor Pots
I have discovered that when you grow your own herbs, you are not just cultivating the plants, but also infusing them with your energy, care, and intention. This personal involvement creates a unique, energetic signature in the plants, a reflection of your relationship with them. As each year passes, your bond grows stronger, your intentions clearer and more refined. Harvesting and using these plants with mindfulness further enhances this connection. Home-grown herbs, usually of higher quality and purity than dried, store-bought varieties, carry a unique energetic imprint because of your care that amplifies their healing properties.
The act of harvesting herbs from your garden or indoor pots is not just a task, but a transformative and immersive experience. Being attuned to the plant’s growth stage and picking what is needed with gratitude and respect further enhances the energetic qualities of the herbs. This mindfulness extends to the preparation process in various projects, where you can infuse your creations with additional positive energy and intention. Many herbalists agree that the products and foods you produce using home-grown herbs carry a stronger energetic power, a testament to the harmonious relationship between you, the plants, and the Earth.
Choosing Your Intent
Creating an herbal room spray from your garden's fresh or dried herbs becomes a powerful tool to enhance your spiritual and magickal practices. The therapeutic benefits of these natural ingredients can elevate your mood, promote relaxation, and even cleanse the energy in your space. Economical and easy to make, once you see how simple it is to create your first spray, you’ll want to fill your magickal cabinet with dozens of your own, potent creations!
The best way to begin choosing your herbs is to write your intent before the selection process. Are you looking to create a stress-reduction, sweet sleep spray? A spray to banish negativity in the home? A mega-money attraction mist? Or were you shopping recently and found a spray with an essential oil combination you liked and want to replicate that aroma with your own magickal brew? When working with herbs and essentials you are a true alchemist – especially if you are balancing fresh/dried plants with a choice of one or two essential oils to enhance the finished scent.
The Herbal Selection Process
Once you have focused on your intent, the next step is to begin the selection process. Do you wish to work only with herbs from your own garden, or will you expand your choices with herbs from a friend’s patch, or the local greenhouse? A fun trip to local garden supply houses can bring a plethora of exciting choices to your formula, and don’t be shy to ask fellow gardeners if they have extra harvest of plants you don’t grow. Most folks are delighted to share their harvest, elevating feelings of self-value because their hard work is appreciated by another person. As they do with the plants, those that care for them bond with fellow caretakers! What if you don’t have that special herb? Some Botanicas and other on-line companies can ship live herbs for reasonable prices. Dried herbs can also be purchased in bulk.
Harvesting herbs spiritually involves approaching the task with mindfulness and reverence for nature. Begin by centering yourself through a moment of stillness or meditation to connect with the earth. Breathe deeply, connecting with the ground beneath your feet, sensing the air around you, drinking in the moment, and touching the sky above. Take your time. There is no rush. Let yourself (body, mind, and spirit) harmonize with nature around you. You can recite a small poem, charm, or statement asking for the connection of spiritual wisdom.
In my (this) garden lush and bright,
Guide these hands with gentle light.
From roots and leaves, in green and gold,
Grant me wisdom, touch my soul
Let the power rise and shine
from sweet dark earth to heaven climb
Loop around and enter me
As I will, so mote it be!
Or, as you prepare to gather the herbs, offer a silent prayer of gratitude in your own words to the plant for its healing properties and sustenance. Run your hand (or hands) in the air over the prospective plants. If you feel sweetness, harmony, softness, lightness, or pleasant emotions, the plant(s) are willing to be harvested. I often tell them what I plan to use them for and explain that others, not just myself, will benefit during this process. If you feel sad, an unpleasant sensation, inhale a foul odor, have an irritating body sensation, or experience tightness across your shoulders, back or chest this plant does not desire to be harvested. If you ignore its wishes, I’ve found the formula or result of your project to be lacking. Use a sharp, clean tool to make precise cuts, ensuring you do not damage the plant. Harvest during a time of day and season that aligns with the herb's natural rhythms, often early morning when the dew has dried. Take only what you need, leaving enough for the plant to continue thriving, and consider giving a small offering back to the earth, such as water or a few seeds, to honor the cycle of growth and renewal.
Magickal Correspondences
When exploring the magickal correspondence associations of your herbs, you'll discover that most herbs function in balance, possessing both attraction and banishment properties. Magickal correspondences are essentially the symbolic connections between herbs and specific energies or intentions. These associations are attuned to the medicinal powers, plant lore, and growth structure of the herbs; but above all, your intuition and experience are vital. This understanding of correspondences can enhance your manifestations.
Let’s use dill as an example as a choice for an ingredient in a spray. Right about now you may be saying, “What? Dill! Yuck! Who wants a spray that smells like dill?” The super thing about my technique is that the herb combination has a very soft aroma, if any. Then, if I want something that smells like, say, money? I’ll add pine or patchouli essential. Just a bit. Back to the dills. If you grow the dill, you'll observe that it's easy to raise and grows quickly, therefore its energy signature aids in your manifestations quickly materializing. The plant’s seeds are many and lightweight, traveling rapidly through the garden with the summer breezes. If planted at the beginning of the season and allowed to spread without harvesting, your yield will be tripled or more. It is so much fun to see where the little dill seeds travel and reproduce, and an inner delight that you aren’t just staring at a bunch of plants – that you know what that one is! In recognition, you gain power. Because of its self-propagating vigor, dill is often chosen for money spells. For instance, it can be used in a spell to attract fast cash or to strengthen investments.
Medicinally, dill has a rich history of use spanning over 2,000 years. It has been used for stomach ailments, digestive problems, colic, heart disease, insomnia, and as an antiseptic for wounds. These uses highlight its protective and healing associations. A healing spray that includes dill can encourage healthy heart energy and banish negative energies that attempt to feed on the auric/spirit of a person, pet, or family. If you are experiencing money worries, incorporating the banishment as well as fast-moving properties of dill into your formula could be beneficial.
Lavender, another herb with general banishment properties, is often chosen for stress relief and sweet sleep, but it is also extremely effective in money spells. Believed to remove negativity attached to money and things of value, and it can help elevate one’s mood by disintegrating stress.
Your most powerful formulas will be those chosen by factoring the aroma, feel, research, and personal compatibility to the plants. Be sure to double-check the safety factor of any plant you choose, particularly avoiding those considered poisonous. I’d also like to mention that there will be plants for which you have a particular affinity, and that work quickly and well for you. Likewise, there may be a plant or two that no matter how you use it, the plant simply refuses to perform. Don’t get upset about it. As of May 2024 according to Wikipedia, there are around 380,000 known plant species and scientists estimate that around 2,000 new plant species are discovered each year. A few of them are bound to love you and others will put you on their “D” list of the Ulmer scale.
Common Plants for Room Sprays
Here are several herbs and flowers (plants and essentials) commonly used in room sprays, as seen through my experience. You may already be raising several of them in your home garden.
Basil - Sweet and herbaceous – great herb for "combining" energies, encouraging the other plants to work cohesively. It helps to settle an area after a disruption. Removes negativity. Basil hates the cold and doesn't like being thirsty. A plethora of excellent varieties hold their deep, rich aroma, including Black Magic and my favorite, African Basil. Element: Fire Planet: Mars
Chamomile - This herb, with its mildly sweet and apple-like scent, is a popular choice for room sprays. It encourages good fortune, attracts money particularly if combined with mint, banishes negativity, breaks curses, and promotes stress relief. If you plan to grow chamomile, you may wish to start the seeds indoors as they are very small. Make sure you raise Matricaria recutita seeds (German or scented chamomile) not the unscented variety. If you pluck only the flower heads, you'll have several harvests in one season. Chamomile and Lavender are often paired as they compliment each other for sleep and anti-stress related formulas. Element: Water Planet: Sun.
Grapefruit, Lemon, Lime, and Orange Rind- Sweet and citrusy. Most US crops come from Texas, Florida, and California, so if you don't live there, a trip to the local grocery can provide what you need. Use the rind, not the meat of the fruit. These fruits are considered cleansers for the mind, aura, and spiritual essence. Bright and uplifting they can enhance your mood. Burn the dried seeds to remove negativity from a room. All varieties are nice for enhancing third-eye work. Focus, clarity, rejuvenation, protection, and chakra boosts all fall under the auspices of these citrus gems. It's a perfect opportunity for you to unleash your imagination and experiment with different combinations to create unique and inviting scents for your space. Element: Fire Planet: Sun
Hyssop – Sweet and spicy, calming. I grow regular hyssop officinalis and anise hyssop, which we often soak in water before ritual and use to asperge sacred space. This herb, particularly the anise hyssop, adds a delightful punch to your herbal sprays for purification, banishment, protection, stimulating creativity, aiding in meditation, and cleansing ritual tools. Anise Hyssop self-propagates ALL over the garden and self-seeds for the following year if you are mindful of the new babies when clearing winter debris. The flower spikes are exceptionally aromatic, and it has few pests. Bees, hummingbirds, and butterflies favor them! The best time to harvest for a spray is just past full bloom when the oils are high in the foliage. The best time to harvest for inclusion in mojo bags and sachets is when the flowers peak. This plant dries very lovely and holds both color and scent well if hung in a darkened area. Can you tell Anise Hyssop is one of my favorite herbs? Element: Fire Planet: Jupiter
Lavender- Provides a calming and floral scent and is a marvelous addition to almost any formula. From banishing negativity to calling in money, you can't go wrong with this fragrant plant. Lavender's power is impressive, and like wearing pink, it sends out signals of peace and gentle energy when you are in public. If you need a favor – wear Lavender! Boosting mood and memory, sleep magicks, cleansing the aura and spirit body, attraction, healing, dispelling grief, enhancing psychic abilities, and promoting romance, you can't go wrong with this amazing herb. I found that when the plants are young, the bunnies love them so I learned early to build little cages around them until they reached about a foot high. Makes a marvelous, refreshing hydrosol. Element: Air Planet: Mercury
Lemon Verbena- Clean and sensual, the Lemon Verbena herb has been a magickal favorite for our covens over the years and is harvested with delight during our fall herbfest. This expansive plant grows into a large 4x4 ft bush if fertilized. Depending upon your growing zone, Lemon Verbena may not winter well for you. Leave the plant in the ground over winter, and it it doesn’t recover in the spring, you can dig it up and dry it to make exciting art pieces and poppets. Transformation, hope, healing, cleansing, uplifting, accomplishment, and a favorite of hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies. Lemon Verbena is thought to strengthen other herbs in your formula and is often used in baths, sachets, and teas for their uplifting and purification properties. Used as a primary ingredient in Nightmare Elimination formulas. Element: Air Planet: Mercury
Lemon Balm – Fresh and light. Lemon Balm is very particular where it grows and prefers shade with a dapple of sunlight—a great healing and protective herb, particularly for the heart, liver, and mental faculties. This incredibly delicate herb goes in for the long haul, from beauty treatments to an anti-inflammatory. From tea to spray to conjure bags, ointments, infusions, and hydrosols, Lemon Balm is the Goddess of the herbal community. Success, focus, friendship, and pleasant dreams, warding off evil and enhancing psychic powers, this amazing herb is a must-have in your alchemical formulas! Element: Water Planet: Moon
Lemongrass - Citrusy and fresh. A good "stop gossip" herb, these long, fragrant grasses are a lovely addition to any room spray, conjure bag, or spiritual bath. We often use it in a bowl of blessed water, with a tall white taper candle in the center to cleanse, purify, and ward off negative energies. They are often added to sprays to enhance psychic abilities. Protection, Luck in Love, Opening the Pathways of Communication. Element: Air Planet: Mercury
Patchouli - Earthy and musky. Patchouli is Earth Mamma; I don't know any other way to describe her. She loves the twilight and grows best (at least in my experience) in shaded areas. She loves the attentive, soft energy of a garden greenhouse. Calming, balancing, and mood harmonizing, it is cheaper to raise your patchouli rather than buying it from an herb shop. Patchouli has had a hard time since 1998, from drought and fires to political unrest. But, just like her correspondences, she has overcome adversity (which she is super good for) and is expected to return to production in late 1994. Patchouli is thought to enhance love, fertility, money attraction, honor the dead, and enhance feminine wiles. Element: Earth Planet: Saturn
Peppermint - Crisp and invigorating. I love growing mints because the many species are so forgiving and prolific. Mint roots, called "runners," carry the plant all over your garden and honestly are best grown in a pot or at the end of the season; all you'll have is mint, mint, and more mint. Used in fast cash and money spells, peppermint is also excellent for ferreting out secrets, finding lost objects, and uncovering hidden information, especially genealogy issues. If you need information to go fast, furious, and intense (like good PR) – peppermint is your plant! Element: Air Planet: Mercury
Pine – Fresh and uplifting. Pine is the purveyor of longevity, raising the emotional spirits, cleansing the aura, bringing protection, healing, and good fortune. Known as the Keeper of Joy, pine adds a beautiful addition to almost any alchemical formula. Element: Air Planet: Mercury
Rose - Romantic and floral. Roses are best known for their association with love spells and friendship workings, yet the plant is capable of so much more! Formulas for navigation, enhancing psychic abilities, bringing luck, bolstering healing, heightening glamories, and removing minor irritations, the rose fills the world with pleasurable fragrance. From the belief that roses shelter the spirits of garden fairies to calming a tumultuous household, the power of the rose brings a sweetness to your enchanting aromatic brew. Element: Water Planet: Venus
Rosemary - Fresh and herbal fragrance. Rosemary, in general, is marvelous whether we're talking about a hair rinse for simply excellent tresses or medicinally to fight inflammation and arthritis, headaches, circulatory problems, cancer, and more! A powerhouse herb, Rosemary performs exceptionally well in magickal applications. Mix with frankincense, Lavender, basil, and rose for the best house-blessing brew! Rosemary is considered a cleanser and an aid in mental prowess and clarity. The herb lends itself well to love magicks and is also a marvelous addition to poppet magick. Element: Fire Planet: Sun
Sage - Warm and herbal. I raise several varieties of sage, from Berggarten, Clary, Purple, Tri-Color, and Salvia to White Sage. From magickal cooking to room sprays, sachets, and poppets, sage dries, preserves, and provides a beautiful aroma. Because I live in a rural area, almost all of my sage plants are grown in pots outdoors, protecting them from small rodents, invasive weeds, and the occasional wandering cat. Protection, wisdom, wishes, and longevity, sage, rise to the magickal challenge and come through for you! Medicinally, sage is thought to improve memory, aid digestion, speed wound healing, and balance hormones. Sage can curtail milk production in nursing mothers; therefore, if there is something you need to limit – consider adding sage to that mojo bag! Element: Earth/Air Planet: Saturn/Jupiter
Thyme - Earthy and aromatic. Just like sage, there are an amazing number of thyme varieties at the nursery. Primarily used in cooking, thyme has several medicinal uses, including boosting the immune system, calming the stomach, and acting as an anti-parasitic. Frequent trimming of your plant increases the yield. Thyme is a Venus planet with attraction properties, from purification to psychic powers, to love, courage, and sweet sleep. Element: Earth Planet: Venus
Common Spices For Room Sprays
Few of us have garden access to spices. However, there is no harm in working with them and using them dried or as an essential oil. Adding spices to room sprays can give your formula warmth, complexity, and a cozy ambiance. Here are some spices commonly used in room sprays:
Allspice - Combines cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg aromas for a complex, warm scent. Perfect for general attraction, money, and love sprays. Marvelous for motivation! It's a super lucky additive. Element: Fire Planet: Mars
Black Pepper - Adds a sharp, spicy, and somewhat earthy note. Great for banishing formulas.
Cardamom - Adds a sweet, spicy, and slightly herbal note that is well-known as an ingredient in lust and love sprays. Element: Water Planet: Venus
Cinnamon - Provides a warm and sweet fragrance reminiscent of baking but has such incredible power that it is too bad that it is often relegated to only the fall and winter months. Commonly used to "speed up the process," Cinnamon is hated by ants, rodents, squirrels, and rabbits – meaning it is a marvelous ingredient for stopping gossip and banishing cruel, low-thinking vibes. Anti-microbial and anti-fungal, it also helps plants like orchids and cacti to grow roots. An all-around helpful spice lending well to success, movement, love, and psychism. Element: Fire Planet: Sun
Cloves - Offers a rich, spicy, and slightly fruity aroma. Another powerhouse spice commonly used in the magickal community is for warding and protection, as well as for protection, expanding money-drawing capabilities. Element: Fire Planet: Jupiter
Coriander Seed - Offers a warm, citrusy, and slightly spicy fragrance. Excellent for love, heart-healing magicks, and lessening grief. A prime ingredient for lust spells. Element: Fire Planet: Mars
Ginger - Offers a zesty, spicy, and slightly woody aroma. My favorite for moving things along. I prefer the fresh root, but the dried variety works well. Commonly used in workings for money, love, success, opening the way, and intensifying power. Element: Fire Planet: Fire
Nutmeg - Has a sweet, woody, and slightly nutty scent. Used to establish a tradition, bring luck and money, strengthen the aura for good health, and cast a protective net around any relationship from business to marriage. If you are using these correspondences for a mojo or conjure bag (because I know you will at some point – add Twitch Grass to the bag to protect your business along with that Nutmeg). Element: Fire Planet: Jupiter
Star Anise - Provides a sweet, licorice-like aroma with hints of spice. This is one of my favorites and indeed makes your sprays smell magickal and unique. I love this spice for enhancing wisdom and intuition and bringing good luck. Perfect for formulas to ward off the Evil Eye and protect your wallet. Element: Fire Planet: Jupiter
Vanilla Bean - Imparts a sweet, comforting, and rich scent. Expensive but worth it, particularly if you are working for love or money and enhancing personal power. The spice is considered anti-bacterial and lends itself well to healing formulas. An excellent offering to the Gods, Ancestors, and Spirits of Love. Element: Water Planet: Venus
Spices can add potent aromatic notes to your room spray, so using them sparingly and with care is important. When incorporating spices into your room formulas, start with a small amount and adjust to achieve the desired strength and balance. Remember that spices can be intense, so it's best to start conservatively and add more if needed. The real excitement lies in experimenting with different combinations, which can create unique, powerful, and inviting scents for your space!
The Process – the 50/50 Blend
There are several techniques for creating herbal room sprays. This article concentrates on combining the herbs, heating them in distilled water, and then mixing them with an alcohol such as Vodka, or combining them with Witch Hazel, that has a 7% alcohol additive. I prefer using the Witch Hazel. Start with 1 – 2 cups of your selected herbs and spices. You can use a single herb or create a blend with several herbs, dried or fresh.
Other Ingredients
2 to 4 cups Distilled Water – the amount depends on how much room spray you wish to make. If just for yourself and a few friends, 2 cups will be fine. For a coven or extended family – four cups might be more to your liking. Two cups will yield about eight 2-ounce bottles (50 herbal blend/50% alcohol), and four cups will yield about sixteen 2-ounce bottles of the same formula.
Vodka or Witch Hazel – This recipe is a 50/50 split – 50% herbal water and 50% alcohol additive. The alcohol is not only a preservative but also helps to evenly disperse the essential oils in the spray. Once you have prepared and strained the herbal water, you will match the volume with the alcohol/alcohol blend. The alcohol is added after the herbal water has cooled. Depending on the brand, the slight alcohol aroma dissipates over time. Alcohol is a flammable substance on its own. Witch Hazel has the lowest amount of alcohol and is my go-to choice for room sprays as it does not ignite (in my experience with the blends I use) over an open flame. I can spray my formula on the barrel of a candle and roll it briskly while blowing my whispered words over my hands and the candle. I then let the candle dry completely before lighting.
If you choose not to use alcohol, understand that the self-life of your herbal spray is greatly reduced to about 3 weeks, but can begin to turn in 3 days. However, you can take control of this by adding a preservative like Germall Plus, a broad spectrum preservative, available on Amazon used in cosmetics that contain water volume. This simple step can significantly extend the shelf life of your non-alcoholic room spray. You can also refrigerate herb-infused water to slightly extend the life of your spray.
I use Witch Hazel, a fascinating ingredient with a rich history. Its branches have long been considered magickal, and were/are used in Water Witching (dowsing to find water) and have a full and varied medicinal/spiritual history from treating burns, eczema, eye strain, sprains, insect bites, gum inflammation, acne, burns, sunburn, tired and achy muscles, healing wounds, diminishing colds, and curtailing diarrhea. Ritually, it has been used to keep away evil, serve as a protective mantel, and heal broken hearts. Its healing and protective qualities serve as a wonderful base for any room spray.
Essential Oils (optional)—The herbal mixture alone carries a light scent that isn’t particularly noticeable. For a more aromatic scent or to capture and pin a positive emotional feeling to your spray, you can add complementary essential oils added after the herbal water has thoroughly cooled. The amount is entirely up to you, although too much can overpower your overall formula. I begin with only a few drops, and then proceed from there.

Small Glass Dishes (for testing essential oil additives)
Fresh dried coffee (for clearing the nose during testing activities)
Sterilization
When making an herbal room spray, sterilizing equipment and bottles is crucial for several reasons. Sterilizing is not just a step, it's a crucial barrier that ensures no harmful microorganisms, such as bacteria, fungi, or mold, are present on the equipment or in the bottles. These microorganisms, if not eliminated, can contaminate the spray, potentially causing it to spoil. By sterilizing the equipment and bottles, you're not just maintaining the integrity and effectiveness of the spray. Contaminants can alter the chemical composition of the essential oils and other ingredients in the spray, potentially changing its intended scent and therapeutic properties. Sterilizing helps maintain the intended aroma and potency of the herbal spray.
How to Sterilize Equipment and Bottles
I boil all the non-plastic equipment I use, including the bottles, in water for at least 10 minutes. This method is effective for glass bottles and metal items. After boiling, remove the equipment and bottles from the water and place them on a clean, dry surface. I turn the bottles upside down and let them drain on clean towels. Let the bottles air dry completely. I wipe down all other equipment and any plastic items with isopropyl alcohol (at least 70% concentration), including the plastic sprayers for the bottles. Allow the alcohol to evaporate completely before use. By adhering to proper sterilization practices, you ensure that your herbal room spray is both safe and effective, providing a pleasant and healthful experience for users.
Basic Spray Instructions
Preparing your herbs is a simple and satisfying process. Wash and dry fresh herbs to remove any dirt. Previously dried herbs need no preparation. Place your fresh herbs in a bowl and lightly crush them to release their essential oils. This can be done by gently pressing down on the herbs with a wooden spoon or using a mortar and pestle. Put all herbs in the pot. Add distilled water. Say a blessing charm of your choice.
In this cookpot, joy and cheer,
Nature's spirits gathered here.
Herbal magic, fresh and bright,
Infuse with love and Goddess might.
Cover. Put heat on simmer for 30 minutes. Turn off the heat. Do not remove lid until outside of pot is cool.
After the cool-down process, strain the liquid through a fine mesh sieve wrapped in cheesecloth. The fine mesh sieve will catch most of the particles, while the cheesecloth will filter out smaller debris, ensuring a clear and fragment-free herbal water.
Mixing the Spray
Once the herbal infusion is cooled, ascertain the exact amount of liquid remaining after heating using the measuring cup. I find it handy to write this number down. I usually pour the measured liquid into a dedicated sterilized pitcher. Next, measure the same amount of vodka/witch hazel and add to the pitcher. The alcohol functions as a preservative and helps the spray disperse evenly.
Optional: Add Essential Oils
Embarking on the journey of creating harmonious scent blends for herbal room sprays is not just a task, but a delightful art. It's a process that involves a unique combination of creativity, and intuition.
Blending gradually, with a drop-by-drop method in a small clean dish or bottle, start with one or two base notes as the foundation of your blend (e.g., cedarwood, patchouli). Base notes provide longevity and depth to the formula. It is what…lingers… and holds the pattern of the intent together. Other base notes can include
Benzoin: Sweet, balsamic, and vanilla-like, benzoin adds warmth and sweetness to blends.
Cedarwood: Rich, woody, and grounding, cedarwood imparts a calming and comforting aroma.
Oakmoss: Earthy, mossy, and slightly woody, oakmoss contributes a classic and deep aroma.
Patchouli: Earthy, woody, and slightly sweet, patchouli adds warmth and depth to blends.
Sandalwood: Smooth, creamy, and exotic, sandalwood adds a luxurious and soothing quality.
Tonka Bean: Sweet, almond-like, and slightly spicy, tonka bean offers a cozy and inviting scent.
Vanilla: Sweet, warm, and comforting, vanilla enhances other notes and adds a gourmand touch.
Vetiver: Earthy, smoky, and rooty, vetiver provides a strong base with a hint of sweetness.
Next, add the middle and top notes to create complexity and balance. Basic rule: Start with a 2:1:1 ratio for base, middle, and top notes respectively. Adjust the ratios based on the strength and desired prominence of each scent. Dip a blotting strip or cotton ball into your blend to test the scent. Before you add to your pitcher, let the aroma settle for a few hours to fully develop in your test dish/bottle. Adjust by adding more drops of specific oils to balance the blend.
To finish out the spray, I usually add gemstone chips that match the intent of my intent inside the bottle. I do this with my oils, too, because I like boosting the energy pattern of the overall formula with the power of the gemstones. I also include them because I like the sound that the gems make when you shake the bottle. The little tinkle of the gems touching the sides of the bottle preps the mind for the magick to come. I use clear crystal or jade for good fortune and money, Amethyst for banishment, carnelian or red jasper for success, and rose quartz for any love and relationship matters. Finally, I seal and complete my sprays with a favored charm and the sound of tuning forks or a singing bowl. You can use a general charm or choose words that match your original intent.
In these bottles, joy and cheer,
Nature's agents gather here.
Herbal magic, fresh and bright,
Accept the charge of Goddess Light.
As you embark on your journey of creating herbal room sprays, remember to document Your Recipes in your own HedgeWitch notebook. This not only helps you keep track of successful blends for future reference but also encourages you to embrace the spirit of experimentation. Note the oils used and their ratios to recreate or modify blends later. Allow your intuition and personal preferences to guide your blending process. Experiment with different combinations and be open to unexpected discoveries.
When testing the spray, make sure to spray it in different areas of the room to get a sense of how the scent disperses. You can also spray it on a piece of fabric or paper to see how the scent lingers.
Storage
Clearly label the bottles, including the date made and ingredients. For years I’ve used Photoshop Elements computer program to create my basic pattern size, and then add artwork and specific information to the template. Canva, another option for making labels, is free and easy to use. You can also hand label, add stickers, artwork with Mod Podge, and beads and wire to enhance the bottle.
If alcohol was used, your spray will store best in a cool, dark place, such as a pantry or cupboard. Keep away from direct sunlight and avoid heat sources such as indoor radiators, furnace vents, etc., as this can affect the quality of the spray. Shelf-life can be up to 3 years, although 1 year is usually the norm. Remember, the quality of the spray can be affected by exposure to heat and light, so it's best to store it in a cool, dark place. If you did not use alcohol, keep your spray in the refrigerator. Its self-life is about 2 weeks.
Magickal Recipes
I created three power-packed formulas for magickal use here at the hearthstone. The first, Mega Money Herbal Room Spray, has performed great for various magicks to enhance financial work. Recently, I made a Fetch Bag for shopping enhancement – finding deals, getting the best price, and making wise choices. I sprayed the bag with the Mega Money formula. For me, it has worked wonderfully. The Second, Evil Be Gone, is a banishment spray that I use to remove negativity, fears, worry, and unhappiness. It is perfect to spray in the air and on clothing (test first on an old piece of cloth), not only to keep evil away but to eliminate negativity energy picked up on the job, in stores, etc. The third spray is a Love spray that encourages love and compassion and heart-healing situations such as loss, grief, and pain associated with memories of or recent events in relationships.
Mega Money Herbal Room Spray – Herb Equal parts: Mint, Chamomile, African Basil, Patchouli, Sassafras Leaves, Ginger, Marigold, and Lavender Herbs. Distilled Water. Witch Hazel. Patchouli and Sandalwood Essential Oils.
Evil Be Gone! Room Spray – Herb Equal parts: White Sage, Anise Hyssop, Rosemary, St. John’s Wort, Bay, and Lemon Balm. Distilled Water. Witch Hazel. Lemon and Clove Essential Oils. -
Sweet Heart Room Spray – Herb Equal parts: Rose Petals, Cardamon, Rosemary, Licorice Root, Coriander, and Nutmeg. Distilled Water. Witch Hazel. Rose and Ylang-Ylang Essential Oils.
Embrace the freedom to personalize your herbal room spray with unique combinations of herbs and essential oils. This is your chance to create a scent that perfectly aligns with your preferences and intentions. Enjoy the process!
